Author Description
ALEXANDRA MEDARU (b. 1988, Bucharest) is a writer of speculative and realist literature (prose, drama, and poetry), literary critic, and editor. She is the editor-in-chief of the literary magazine P(RO)EZIA and a permanent contributor to the e-magazine EgoPHobia, where she runs two columns: Cultural Arena: The Book and The Movie (as a literary critic) and Recommended Readings by Alexandra (as an editor).
She has published the short-story collection Whispers between Waters (Amazon, 2026) and the poetry collection Demons and Demiurges (EIKON Publishing House, 2017), as well as poetry in the volumes The Cities of the Future (Pavcon Publishing House, 2023), The Generation of One Thousand Signs (Casa de Pariuri Literare, 2002), and The Poetry Tram (Paralela 45 Publishing House, 2019), and prose in the anthologies Heroes Without Will (Millennium Books Publishing House, 2015) and Centenarium StrING (Tornada Publishing House, 2018).
Her poetry, prose, critical studies, and editorials have appeared in Apostrof, Argos, Echinox, eCreator.ro, EgoPHobia, Noise Poetry, O mie de semne, Parnas XXI, Postmodern, P(RO)EZIA, Puterea – Cotidian Național, Galaxia 42 SF&F Online Magazine, Revista de povestiri, Revista de suspans, Select News, UtopIQa, and on the Queero platform. Among her notable works are The Sin (2013), Encounter with a Man, a Satyr, and a Tomcat (2016), The Creatures of the Last Night (2017), The Great Union and the Culture of Eternal Influence (2018), Henrik Ibsen – “Peer Gynt” (2019), Madonna with Tears of Blood (excerpt, 2020), The Hidden Symphony (excerpt, 2021), The Visitor (2022), A Rape That Almost Happened (2023), Some Things Even Time Cannot Heal (2024), Where Infinity Awaits You (2025), and Whispers Between Waters (2025). Her prose and poetry have been translated into Spanish and English and published in Argentina, Chile, Spain, Mexico, and the United States.
In 2014, she was awarded Second Prize in the Drama category of the Inspired – Ideas Competition for her play Contraband in Black and White.
